I was asked to create a portrait of my first feminist inspiration for A Feminist Perspective curated by Baha Ganesh at the Montalban Theatre this month. The show was amazing with an inspiring array of portraits by some cool LA artists. Check out some pics from the opening night here.
I chose Georgia not only because of her art, but of her persona. She was so independent throughout her life. and when I read everything about her as I was trying to figure out how a small suburban girl could one day grow up to be a great artist, like her. Brooklyn Museum did an exhibit of her work along with photographs of her and her clothes! Which I think is brilliant! They seem to feel the same way I did about her, defining her not only through her art, but by her being.
Thankfully Trader Joe's came out with a new holiday bag this year and I was able to find her blue and white beautifully designed iconic clouds. I was always mesmerized at the Art Institute of Chicago by her enormous painting above the stairs of that incredible sky.
